With temperatures lower than expected, managing tyres was the order of the day in Turkey, and for Fernando Alonso it meant a battle for third place.

At various points through the race, Alonso found himself fighting the Red Bull of Mark Webber for second. Sometimes the Ferrari tyres were fresh and Alonso could get ahead, other times the momentum swung the other way.

In the end, Webber managed to secure second, with teammate Sebastian Vettel taking the victory from pole position. Alonso had to settle for third, but this was by no means a disappointment.

Ferrari have just begun to show their competitiveness this weekend, and have been rewarded with a third place trophy for it. Fernando Alonso wants more: "This is only a first step: we must continue in this direction. Given the shape we were in at the start of this season, this is a great finish. The next three or four races will be crucial."
