The Mercedes GP drivers take two W 196 cars around the Nordschleife

With their home Grand Prix just days away, Mercedes are making the most of their time at the Nürburgring. Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg were let loose around the Nordschleife circuit in some old Mercedes machinery.
Schumacher drove a streamlined W 196, whilst Rosberg had the open wheel version, and both were pleased with their day out on track. Michael said afterwards: “What better way could there be to motivate ourselves for our second home race in a fortnight than to go for a drive in a proven winner?”
Nico analysed the experience further: “From a modern perspective, the upright sitting position feels very strange, but the drive itself was great. It must have been tremendous fun driving these cars back in the Fifties. Compared with our modern safety standards, though, it was much more dangerous then, racing on tracks like the Nordschleife.”
