Lewis Hamilton got behind the wheel of the F1 W04 for the first time in Barcelona today, taking over testing duties from Nico Rosberg in this second week of pre-season action. The team are gradually recovering from a difficult start to their testing outing, after two poor days in Jerez. Rosberg had a gearbox issue on Tuesday at the Circuit de Catalunya, but Hamilton managed 121 laps the following day.
The British driver was happy with his day's work, saying: "We had a good day today and it was nice to get so many laps in. We’re making continual steps forward in terms of our understanding of the set-up and the tyres. The hard compound work in particular was pretty good today, although all of tyres are showing degradation so looking after them isn’t easy."
Hamilton will hand back to Nico Rosberg for the third day of testing, before wrapping up the week out on track on Friday.
